Your header and footer go around every email you send. The header usually holds your logo. The footer holds your postal address and the links to unsubscribe and to change email preferences. Anti-spam laws in most countries require an unsubscribe link in every marketing email, and the US and Canada require a postal address as well. You set them up once, and your designs use them.

Editing it

  1. Go to Designs. The first tile is Header & Footer.
  2. Click Edit. The header is at the top and the footer at the bottom, with a space between them marked Your email slots in here.
  3. Change them with the same blocks you use in emails. To add your logo, click the logo space, then Choose image.
  4. Your changes save as you go, and every design that uses the standard header and footer shows them.

If the logo space is left empty, your emails leave it out, or show your business name from Setup → Your brand in its place. Add your logo, or delete the logo block if you'd rather have no header.

Starting from a template

Click Templates at the top of the left rail to choose from nine ready-made headers and footers. Simple is a centred logo above a thin line. Deep water puts a dark band at the top and the bottom. Shopfront adds Shop, About and Contact under the logo. If your website address is in Setup when you pick it, each word links to your website. If it isn't, they stay as plain words, so add the address under Website URL in Setup → Business address first, or link each word yourself. Split footer puts your address on one side and the links on the other. Each one keeps your address and the unsubscribe link. Picking one replaces what's there, and undo brings it back.

A design with its own header and footer

Inside any email design, the header and footer appear as rows you can change. If you change them there, that design keeps its own version, and Own header & footer shows at the top of the designer. Changes to your standard header and footer then skip that design. Click Use the standard one to go back to the standard version.

What every footer needs

Keep the unsubscribe link in the footer. An email without one won't send, and the message says what's missing. Keep your postal address there too if you email people in the US or Canada. An email without it still sends, and you see a note before a campaign goes out. If you save your header and footer without an unsubscribe link, a warning reminds you to put it back.

The designer shows your address in the footer, filled in from Setup → Business address. It comes in through the address line every footer template has, so if you remove that line, type your address into the footer instead.

Background

With nothing selected, the toolbar shows Background. The standard header and footer have no background of their own, so each email's page colour shows behind them.
