Any block in an email can be shown only to some people, or hidden from some people. Everyone gets the email, and people who don't match the rule get it with that block left out. Wrenfield Pottery, for example, could show a “Welcome back” offer only to people who have ordered before.
Adding a rule
- Hover over the block and click the circle on its toolbar, Choose who sees this block.
- Pick Show it when… to show the block to people who match, or Hide it when… to hide it from them.
- Click Add condition, then pick what to check, how to compare it and the value. For example: Orders, is more than, 0.
- Add more conditions if you need them. With two or more, Match sets whether people must match all of them or any of them.
- Click Save.
A block with a rule wears a small blue dot at its top left, and the circle on its toolbar fills in, so you can spot them. Click the dot to open the rule. To remove a rule, open it again and click Show to everyone.
What a rule can check
A rule can look at a person's Email, Name, Where they came from and Subscription status, and at any detail you keep about people. It can also use their orders from your Shopify store, such as Has ordered, Total spent, Days since last order or Bought from collection.
Checking it
Previews and test emails show every block, whatever its rules say, so you can check all of it. On the real send, each person gets only the blocks their rules allow. Rules work in campaigns, drips and the emails Cruise sends.
Ideas
- Show a first-order discount only to people whose Orders is less than 1.
- Show a studio open-day block only to people whose Town detail equals Woodbridge.
