The quickest way to set up a drip is to start from a ready-made one. Its steps are in place and its emails are written, so you can switch it on in a few minutes and change it whenever you like.

1. Pick a ready-made drip

  1. Go to Drips and click New Drip.
  2. Click the drip you want, or type in Search ready-made drips above the list to find one. Abandoned checkout, Order confirmation, Order dispatched, Back in stock and Price drop are only listed when your Shopify store is connected. Without a store, Left in their basket is listed in place of Abandoned checkout.

Order confirmation emails a thank-you after each order, and Order dispatched a note when you mark an order as fulfilled in Shopify. Both show the products in the order without prices, because your shop's price today may not be what they paid. They only reach people who agreed to your emails, so keep Shopify's own order confirmation and shipping emails switched on: those go to every buyer, with the receipt and any tracking.

The New Drip screen, searching the ready-made drips for order
Click New Drip to choose a blank drip or one of the ready-made ones.

The drip opens on the canvas. Nothing is saved until you change something, so you can open a few to compare them. Click Drips at the top left to go back without keeping one.

2. Check the emails

Each email in a ready-made drip comes with its own design. Click an email on the canvas to see its settings in the panel on the right.

An email step's settings: design, subject, preview text and an inbox preview
Click an email on the canvas to change its design, subject line and preview text.
  • Design is the email that gets sent. When the drip is first saved, a copy of each ready-made email goes into your Designs with your own header and footer. Click the icon beside the design's name to open it in the designer and change the words or add pictures.
  • Subject is the subject line. Use Insert to add the person's first name, last name or email address.
  • Preview text is the line that shows after the subject in most inboxes. Leave it blank to use the design's own.

To send one of your own designs instead, click the design's name and pick another. Buttons in the ready-made emails link to the website under Website URL in Setup → Business address. If that box is empty, they go to your Shopify store.

3. Change the waits

Click a wait to change how long it lasts. Use the minus and plus buttons to change the number, and click the unit to choose minutes, hours, days, weeks or months.

4. Switch it on

  1. Click Review & publish at the top right.
  2. Read the checks. If something needs fixing, click it to go to that step.
  3. Click Publish and turn on.
The Publish this drip window with no problems found
Review & publish lists any problems to fix before the drip goes live.

The drip is now live. People go into it the next time its trigger happens for them. Anyone it happened for before you switched the drip on isn't added.

A drip can't go live until your sender email is verified in Setup → Sender details. If you email people in the US or Canada, add your postal address in Setup → Business address too, because the law there requires it in every marketing email. The buttons in the ready-made emails need somewhere to go as well: add your website under Website URL in Setup → Business address, or connect your Shopify store. On a team, only an admin or the account owner can publish a drip. A team member sees Review in place of Review & publish.
