A data set is a table of facts that aren't about one person, such as your opening hours, upcoming workshops, this week's weather or your products. You keep them in Data, and use them in emails, groups, drips and Cruise.

Data lists every set, with where it comes from and where it's used.

Sets you already have

  • With Shopify connected: Products, Collections, Stock levels, Sales and Best sellers.
  • Form answers, from the forms in Collect, and Calendar ideas, from your Calendar.

These read SplashSend's own records each time they're used, so a product's price in an email is its price when the email is sent. To add your own, click New data set. You can type a set in yourself or connect an app. See Keeping a data set yourself and Connecting an app in Data.

Put a value in an email

  1. Open the design in the designer and click into a text block where the value should go.
  2. In the text toolbar, click the Personalise button (the person icon).
  3. Scroll to the data set's name and pick a field, such as Opening hours.

The field appears as a pill in your text. When the email is sent, the pill becomes the value at that moment, so an email sent on Friday shows Friday's value. If there's no value for someone, that spot is left blank.

Data values go in the words of an email. They can't be used as the web address of a button.

Which row an email uses

When a set has more than one row, open it and go to the Settings tab to choose which row your emails use. Under Who this data applies to, Everyone gives every person the same row, and Which row an email uses decides which one. You can choose The top row, The newest row or, for a set with dates, The one running today. When nothing runs today, it uses the next one coming up. A Public holidays or Calendar set uses The one running today until you choose another.

Matched to each person gives each person their own row instead, such as the opening hours of their nearest shop. See Using data in groups and drips.

Reads as, on the right of the set's page, shows how a value will read in an email today.

Before you change or remove a set

Where it's used, on the right of the set's page, lists every design that uses it, with the campaigns and drips that send those designs. Before you delete a set or stop it being used, take its values out of those designs. An email that still uses them would have a blank where each value was. Switching a set off and changing it to Nobody (internal only) both count as stopping it being used.
