There are a few ways to make sure someone doesn't get your emails. Which one to use depends on why.

They've asked to stop: unsubscribe them

Open their page in People and click Unsubscribe in the Subscription panel, then confirm. For several people at once, tick them in the People sheet, choose Unsubscribe from the bar at the top and click Unsubscribe them.

They stop getting campaigns, drips and Cruise emails straight away and move to the Unsubscribed group. Their history stays, and they still count towards your plan.

People you never want to email: a never-email list

This suits people who are on your list for another reason, such as your staff or your own test addresses.

  1. In the People sheet, tick the people and choose Save as list. Give the list a name, such as Staff, and click Save list.
  2. In the panel on the left, hover over the list, click its ⋯ menu and choose Settings.
  3. Switch on Never email these people.
Never email these people keeps everyone on a list out of your sends.

While it's on, nobody on the list gets a campaign, a drip or a Cruise email, even if they're also in a group you send to. The list is marked Not emailed in the panel, and each person's page says Not emailed and names the list. The settings window shows how many people are on the list and how many would get an email.

Their own subscription isn't touched. Switch the setting off and they can be emailed again as before. To add someone to the list later, open their page, click Actions and choose Add to list. To take someone off it, open the list, tick them and choose Remove from list.

Stop every email to one person

On someone's page, click Actions, choose Stop all emails and confirm. No campaign, drip or Cruise email goes to them, whatever their subscription says. Their status reads Emails stopped, with Stopped by you underneath, and they appear in the Stopped by you group under We never email these. To undo it, choose Allow emails again in the same menu, which also clears their bounce count.

What happens on its own

Addresses that bounce, and people who mark your email as spam, have their emails stopped for you and appear under We never email these. See Bounces and spam complaints.

Why not delete them?

Deleting a person also deletes the record that they unsubscribed or bounced. If they're in a file you import later, they come back as subscribed. Unsubscribing them, or putting them on a never-email list, keeps that record.
