SplashSend can email people who started a checkout, put something in their basket or looked at a product, and then left without buying. If your shop is on Shopify, start with the checkout reminder. On any other website, turn on website tracking and use the basket and browsing triggers.
Shopify checkouts
The ready-made Abandoned checkout drip waits an hour after someone leaves your checkout, sends an email showing what is in their basket with a button back to it, then sends one more a day later.
- Go to Drips, click New Drip and pick Abandoned checkout. It is listed when your Shopify store is connected.
- Check the two emails and the waits. See Start a drip from a ready-made one.
- Click Review & publish, then Publish and turn on.
SplashSend checks your store for unfinished checkouts every 15 minutes. A reminder goes out when the checkout was started in the last two days and the email address used at checkout belongs to one of your people who is subscribed. A shopper who isn't on your list yet and doesn't agree to marketing emails at checkout is added from Shopify as unsubscribed, so they don't get a reminder.
What the emails show
The ready-made emails include the What they left behind block. In the inbox, each person sees the products from their own checkout, with a Back to your basket button that takes them back to it.
You can add this block to any drip email. In the designer, click Ready-made and look under Your shop. It only fills in when a drip sends the email.
When they buy
Anyone who places an order, in any store, leaves the drip before their next email, so nobody gets a reminder after buying.
Each person goes through the drip once, unless you change Can they go through it again? on the trigger. For example, choose After 30 days so someone can get a reminder about a new checkout a month later.
Testing it
- Make sure the drip is switched on, and that your own email address is on your list and subscribed. You can also tick the box to get marketing emails when you check out.
- In your shop, add something to your basket and go to the checkout. Enter your email address, then close the page without paying.
- In SplashSend, open Apps, then Shopify, and click Sync now, or wait up to 15 minutes.
The first email arrives about an hour later. To see it sooner while you test, change the first wait to one minute, then set it back afterwards. If you test more than once with the same address, choose Can re-enter under Can they go through it again? while you test. Because the drip is live, these changes don't take effect until you click Review & publish and publish them. Publish again after you set them back.
Reminders on other websites
Website tracking tells SplashSend what people look at and put in their basket on your website. Turn it on first.
- Open Apps in the menu, then Website tracking.
- On a Shopify store, click Open theme editor, find App embeds and switch on SplashSend's Pop-ups and tracking. On any other website, copy the line of code and paste it immediately before the closing </head> tag.
Then start a blank drip, click the trigger and choose one of these from the Orders group:
- They leave items in their basket: someone added something to their basket on your website.
- They look and don’t buy: someone looked at a product on your website.
On a Shopify store, Viewed but didn’t buy in the Shopify group needs website tracking too.
Tracking only recognises people who came to your website by clicking a link in one of your emails. It doesn't add anyone to your list, and it ignores visits from people it doesn't recognise.
