The When someone submits panel, on the right of the Build tab, lists the steps a form takes each time someone sends it. They run in order, from the top.
Signing people up
A form with an Email field shows Subscribe them to your list at the top of the panel. Switch it off if the form shouldn't add people to your list, as on a contact form.
Switch on Confirm by email first to ask new people to confirm. They get an email, “Confirm your subscription to” followed by your business name, with a Confirm subscription button. It opens a page where they click Confirm my subscription, and that's when they join your list. The link works for 48 hours. Until they confirm, the form shows a message asking them to check their inbox.
Some rules apply whatever you choose:
- Someone who unsubscribed in the past always has to confirm by email before they rejoin.
- An address that bounced or complained is never signed up again through a form.
- A form fills in a name or detail that's missing for someone already on your list, but doesn't change one they already have unless they confirm by email.
- If your account has reached the number of people your plan allows, the form can't add anyone new, and the person filling it in sees a message saying so.
Saving answers
A form with questions shows Save their answers. Answers are kept automatically and appear in the Answers tab. Answering a question never adds someone to your people. See Reading answers and choosing what to show.
Adding steps
Click Add action and choose a step.
- Set a detail about them fills in a detail on the person, such as How they found us with “Craft fair”. For a detail that holds several values, tick Add to what's already there to add to it rather than replace it.
- Add them to a list puts the person on one of your lists from People.
- Start a drip starts one of your drips for them. Only people who are subscribed and can be emailed are added.
- Send a thank-you email sends a short email with your Subject and Message to the person who sent the form: the address they typed, or their own address if they came from their link in one of your emails. On a form with Confirm by email first, it goes once they've confirmed. It's never sent to an address you've stopped emailing, and one address gets at most two in an hour.
- Notify your team emails you what they sent. Under Send to, use the account owner, a teammate or your verified sender address, or leave it blank for the owner. Reply to that email to answer the person.
- Send them to a page takes them to a web page after they send the form, such as a thank-you page on your site.
- Send it to another tool sends each submission to the webhooks you've set up for the Form submitted event, in Setup under Webhooks. See Sending events to your own systems (webhooks).
Each step has a switch that turns it off without removing it. Its ⋯ menu has Move up and Move down to change its place in the order, Edit to open its settings, and Remove.
Who the steps apply to
Steps that change something about the person, such as adding them to a list, only run for someone on your list. That includes a person the form has signed up, and a person who typed an address that's already on your list or came from their own link in one of your emails. On a form with Confirm by email first, these steps run once a new person confirms.
Answers set to save onto the person with Saves to are only saved for someone new to your list, or someone who came from their own email link. That way nobody can change the details of a person on your list by typing their address into a form.
