Before you export
If your list is in Mailchimp, Klaviyo or Brevo, you don't need a file. Connect the tool in Apps instead, and your list comes across with who unsubscribed and whose address bounced, which a file loses. See Moving your list from Mailchimp, Klaviyo or Brevo.
A file is the way in from any other tool, or if you'd rather not connect one. Export only the people who are still subscribed. Emailing people who unsubscribed, or addresses that bounce, brings bounces and spam reports on your first campaign, and that hurts every email you send after it.
Mailchimp
- In Mailchimp, click Audience in the left menu and select your audience.
- Click Export audience, then Export CSV to confirm.
- Mailchimp emails you when the export is ready. Download the file.
- If the download is a ZIP, open it and find the subscribed file inside.
The ZIP holds separate files for subscribed, unsubscribed and cleaned addresses. Import only the subscribed one.
Klaviyo
- In Klaviyo, go to Lists & Segments and click Create List/Segment → Segment.
- Set the condition to can receive email marketing, which keeps only the people who opted in.
- Click Create Segment, then open it once it has finished building.
- Click the Manage Segment dropdown and select Export Segment to CSV.
Don't export your whole list. Klaviyo's exports include unsubscribed and suppressed profiles, which is why the segment comes first.
Constant Contact
- In Constant Contact, go to Contacts.
- Filter by email status and choose Active, so only the people who are subscribed show.
- Click Actions → Export selection.
- Choose the details to include and click Export.
- When it's ready, download the file from the import/export activity page.
Brevo
- In Brevo, go to CRM → Contacts.
- Click Load a list or segment and select the list you want to move.
- Choose which attributes to include.
- Select the CSV format and click Start export.
- When it's ready, click the bell at the top of the page to download the file.
Brevo exports everyone in the list you choose, so pick a list that holds only subscribed people.
Kit (formerly ConvertKit)
- In Kit, go to Grow → Subscribers.
- Tick the box at the top of the list, then click Select all.
- Click Bulk Actions → Export.
- Kit emails you a download link when it's ready. The link expires after 5 days.
Kit exports everyone, whatever their status. To export only the people who are still subscribed, make a segment filtered by status first and export from that segment.
Importing the file
In SplashSend, go to People and click Import. CSV, TSV and Excel files all work. Match your columns to names, email addresses and the details you keep, then import. Adding and importing people goes through each step.
On any paid plan, our team also rebuilds your automations and sign-up forms, along with your 10 most recent emails, free within 5 working days. See how the free move works.
