People shows your groups and lists in a panel on the left. Click one and its people open on the right as a spreadsheet, one row per person.

The panel on the left

  • Your groups update themselves from rules. Everyone and Subscribed come with your account.
  • We never email these holds the people who bounced, complained or unsubscribed, and the people you stopped emailing yourself. These groups fill themselves, so you can't add people to them.
  • Lists are sets of people you pick yourself. A list you've set to never be emailed is marked Not emailed.

Type in Find an audience to search the names of your groups and lists. If some people may have joined twice, a yellow link to the possible duplicates appears at the top of the panel. At the bottom, you can see how many people you have and your plan's limit.

Reading the sheet

  • Person: their name and email address. A small coloured dot shows their engagement level.
  • Status: Subscribed, Unsubscribed or Emails stopped. Nobody marked Emails stopped gets an email. It usually means their address bounced or they marked one of your emails as spam.
  • Last engaged: when they last opened, clicked or ordered. It reads Never when there's been nothing in the last 90 days.
  • Source: how they joined, for example Shopify, Signup, Import or Manual.
  • After those, there's a column for each detail you keep.

Click a column heading to sort by it. Click it again to reverse the order, and a third time to go back to the usual order.

To find someone, type their name or email address in Search people. It only searches the group or list you have open, so open Everyone to search all your people. Large groups load 200 people at a time, with a Load more button at the bottom. Click a person's name to open their page.

Editing in the sheet

Click a detail cell to change it. Dates take the form dd/mm/yyyy, and Yes / No and Dropdown cells give you a list to choose from. Your change saves when you click away. To add a new column, click + Add detail after the last heading. See Details: what you know about each person.

The Fill in details button adds ready-made columns worked out from what people do, such as total spent. See Filling in details for you.

Doing something to several people

Tick the box beside each person, or the box in the heading row to tick everyone loaded. A bar appears at the top of the screen.

Tick people to act on them together.
Tick people to act on them together.
  • Edit detail sets one detail to the same value for everyone ticked.
  • Save as list puts them in a new list.
  • Remove from list, with a list open, takes them off that list. They stay in your account.
  • Export downloads them as a CSV file.
  • New campaign starts a campaign that goes to these people only.
  • Unsubscribe stops emailing them. They move to the Unsubscribed group and still count towards your plan.

Exporting a group or list

Click Export at the top right and choose a CSV or Excel file. It has everyone in the group or list you have open, with the columns you can see. On a team, only an admin or the account owner sees Export, here and in the bar that appears when you tick people.

The health line

If you've emailed people in the open group or list in the last 90 days, a coloured line across the top shows their open rate, complaints and bounces. The groups under We never email these don't have one. It turns amber when bounces reach 2% or complaints reach 0.05%, and red at 5% bounces or 0.1% complaints. If it's red, check where these people came from before you email them again. See Bounces and spam complaints.
