Groups
A group is a set of rules, such as “has placed more than two orders” or “engagement is Gone quiet”. Anyone who matches is in the group, and it updates itself as people change, join or leave.
Making a group
- Go to People and click New group in the panel on the left.
- Give it a Group name and add the rules people must match. Click Add condition for another rule, and choose whether people must match all of the rules or any of them.
- Check the preview, which shows how many people match, then click Create group.
To change a group later, open it and click Edit filters beside its rules, or choose Edit group from its ⋯ menu in the panel.
Groups that come with your account
- Everyone and Subscribed are marked Built in. They can't be changed or deleted.
- Under We never email these are Hard bounces, Soft bounces, Complaints, Unsubscribed and Stopped by you. People land in these on their own, and they can't be picked for a send.
Lists
A list is a fixed set of people. Nobody joins or leaves a list on their own. People go in when you add them or import a file into the list, and a form can add people too. Click New list to make one, or tick people in the grid and choose Save as list.
To keep a list's people out of every email, open the list's ⋯ menu in the panel, choose Settings and turn on Never email these people. Nobody on that list gets a campaign, a drip or a Cruise email. This suits people such as your staff, or anyone who asked to be left alone. See Stopping emails to someone.
Using them
- When you send a campaign, tick groups or lists on the Who gets it step.
- A drip can start when someone joins a list. Adding one person to a list starts any drip set to begin when someone joins it. Save as list doesn't, and nor does importing a file unless you tick Also start drips for these people.
- Click a group or list in the panel to open its people as a spreadsheet. See Finding your way around People for sorting the sheet and acting on several people at once.
