A campaign is a one-off email to the people you choose, such as a newsletter, a sale or news of a new class. You build it in five steps, and it's saved as a draft as you go.

Before your first campaign

  • Verify the address your emails come from, in Setup → Sender details.
  • Add your postal address in Setup → Business address, and the standard footer shows it. You need one if you email people in the US or Canada.
  • Have a design ready in Designs, or make one as you go.

Starting a campaign

Click Send in the menu on the left, then click New Campaign. The campaign gets a made-up name, which only you see. Click the name at the top to rename it.

You can also click a future day on the Calendar and choose Send an email. The campaign is then set to go out on that day.

The five steps

The steps run across the top of the page. Click Next to move on, or click a finished step to go back to it.

  1. Subject: the subject line, and the preview text that follows it in the inbox. On a paid plan, Write with AI suggests subject lines if you're stuck. See Writing your subject line and preview text.
  2. Design: click one of your designs and it's marked Selected. Use the eye icon on a design to preview it, or the pencil to edit it.
  3. Who gets it: All people, any mix of Groups & lists, or people you choose with Pick people. See Choosing who gets your campaign.
  4. When: Send now, Send later at a date and time, or Best time for each person. See Scheduling campaigns.
  5. Send: check the summary under Here's what will go out. Click Edit beside anything you want to change.

Each click of Next saves your work. Save and exit, at the top left, leaves the campaign as a draft in your list of campaigns.

On the last step

When you're happy, click Send Now, then Confirm Send. If you chose Send later, the button reads Schedule. It schedules the campaign at once, with no confirm window, and the checks run when its time comes. If one fails then, the campaign waits and is tried again every 30 minutes. See Scheduling campaigns.

The Send Campaign window asks you to confirm before the email goes out.

The confirm window warns you in red if something has to be fixed first, such as a missing unsubscribe link, and you can't send until it is. A missing postal address shows in amber, and you can still send. See When a campaign won't send. Once you confirm, a progress bar shows the emails going out. You can leave the page while it sends. To stop it part-way, click Stop sending under the progress bar. Nobody else gets it, the people it has reached keep their copy, and the campaign shows Cancelled.

Making a new design part-way through

On the Design step, Create New saves your campaign as a draft and opens the designer. Your design saves itself as you work. When it's ready, click Use this design. Your campaign opens in a new tab with the new design chosen. The pencil on one of your designs does the same for a design you already have.

After it's sent

A green band at the top of the campaign shows how many people it went to and when. Click See how it's doing for opens, clicks and sales. You can still rename a sent campaign. Everything else stays as it was when it went out. See Understanding campaign stats.
